Magic Gestures – Hilfe
Stand: 28. Oktober 2026 · English version below
Was du brauchst
-
Ein iPhone mit iOS 27 oder neuer
-
-
Auslöser belegen. Mit Aktionstaste: Einstellungen → Aktionstaste → nach links wischen bis „Kurzbefehl“ → „Magic Gestures“ wählen. Ohne Aktionstaste: Einstellungen → Bedienungshilfen → Tippen → Auf Rückseite tippen → Doppeltippen → „Magic Gestures“ wählen.
-
Mac-App holen. In Magic Gestures „Mac-App per AirDrop senden“ tippen.
-
Lokales Netzwerk nicht erlaubt: iPhone: Einstellungen → Datenschutz & Sicherheit → Lokales Netzwerk → Magic Gestures an. Mac: Systemeinstellungen → Datenschutz & Sicherheit → Lokales Netzwerk → Magic Gestures an.
-
Datenschutz
Kein Konto, kein Server, keine Cloud.

Magic Gestures – Help
Last updated: 28 October 2026
Magic Gestures lets you throw photos, PDFs and videos from your iPhone to your Mac with a flick of your hand. Here you’ll find setup, fixes for common problems and how to reach me.
What you need
-
An iPhone with iOS 27 or later
-
A Mac with macOS 26 or later and the free Magic Gestures Mac app
-
Both devices on the same Wi-Fi, or the Mac connected to your iPhone’s Personal Hotspot
Setup
The app walks you through everything on first launch. It takes a few minutes:
-
Add the shortcut. In Magic Gestures, tap “Add Shortcut” and confirm in the Shortcuts app.
-
Set up the trigger. With an Action button: Settings → Action Button → swipe left to “Shortcut” → choose “Magic Gestures”. Without one: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap → Double Tap → choose “Magic Gestures”.
-
Get the Mac app. In Magic Gestures, tap “Send Mac App via AirDrop”. On the Mac, open the zip in Downloads, then open “Magic Gestures”. The app moves itself to the Applications folder. On first launch, allow local network access.
-
Pair. On first launch, the Mac opens pairing by itself. Otherwise click the hand in the menu bar → “Settings…” → “iPhone” → “Pair iPhone…”. On the iPhone, tap “Pair with Mac”. Both devices show a six-digit number. Only if it matches, choose “Numbers Match” on both.
-
First throw. The app prepares a test file. Open hand, make a fist, throw upwards.
You can see the setup again any time: gear icon → “Show Setup Again”.
Throwing
-
Show a photo, PDF or video in Photos, Preview, Safari or Chrome. Or tap “Choose File…” in Magic Gestures, including from iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
-
Press the Action button or double-tap the back and hold the iPhone still. You have about six seconds.
-
Hold your open hand about 30 cm (1 ft) in front of the front camera, make a fist and move it up quickly.
The file lands on your Mac in “Downloads/Magic Gestures” and opens right away. You can change the folder in the Mac app under “Settings…”. Afterwards your iPhone jumps back to the app you threw from (you can turn this off: gear icon → “Return to the app after a throw”).
Troubleshooting
-
“No Mac found”: Check that Magic Gestures is running on the Mac and both are on the same Wi-Fi or Personal Hotspot. Guest Wi-Fi often keeps devices apart; use the hotspot there. A VPN with a kill switch can block the local network; allow local network access in it.
-
The Mac no longer recognizes the iPhone: Pair again: “Pair iPhone…” on the Mac, “Pair Again” on the iPhone.
-
Local network access denied: iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → turn on Magic Gestures. Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → turn on Magic Gestures.
-
The gesture isn’t recognized: Is the camera allowed? Gear icon → “Camera and Gesture”. Then: hand about 30 cm from the camera, enough light, iPhone held still.
-
The Action button doesn’t open Magic Gestures: Settings → Action Button: is “Shortcut” set to “Magic Gestures”?
-
Back Tap doesn’t open Magic Gestures: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap: is “Double Tap” set to “Magic Gestures”?
-
The hand is missing from the menu bar: macOS hides icons when the menu bar is full. Open Magic Gestures with Spotlight and its window appears.
-
Nothing arrives from Brave, Firefox, Instagram, Facebook or Google Photos: These apps don’t pass their content to Shortcuts. Open PDFs in Safari or Chrome and throw from there, or save the file and pick it in Magic Gestures with “Choose File…”.
For detailed hints in plain sentences: on the iPhone, gear icon → “Help & Diagnostics”; on the Mac, “Settings…” → “Diagnostics”.
Subscription
You get one free practice throw. After that, throwing needs the subscription: free for 7 days, then €2.99 per month or €19.99 per year. Pairing, settings and diagnostics work without it. To manage or cancel: gear icon → “Manage or Cancel Subscription”. You can also restore purchases on the subscription screen.
Privacy
No account, no server, no cloud. Every throw goes encrypted straight from your iPhone to your Mac. The camera only runs for a few seconds after you start a throw and never stores or sends an image. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
